If you and your camper would be willing to participate in a post-camp survey
about how the week ran, please check back here starting Wednesday, June
21 Saturday, June 24.
We're always very interested in your responses to learn how we can make camp as
entertaining and rewarding an experience as possible!
Welcome to the Camp Mennoscah 2006 Junior I session, directed by my brother (Kevin Neufeld) and me (Keith Neufeld). This very small web site is designed to give you a glimpse into what goes on at camp, and hopefully help spur conversations about the week when your campers return home.
Every morning, the campers sign up for elective activities, which vary from archery and canoeing to beadmaking and warm fuzzies. The past few years, I've led a small group each day writing articles for a newsletter, which I print off my computer and post in the dining hall by lunchtime. The newsletter has become so popular that last year, at a show of hands, every camper requested a print copy to take home to their families. With that much interest, I thought it was worth trying to post the newsletter online each day, so the families back home could watch the week's activities as they unfold.
The feature stories cover the morning's spiritual input, the previous night's recreation, and interviews with various staff members. If time remains after writing one of the main articles, campers often enjoy writing short and fun pieces about other things going on around camp.
I'm posting the newsletter in both PDF and HTML format. If it's convenient for you to view the PDF, I recommend it; the HTML is exported directly from my word processor, and it does funny things to some of the punctuation like quotation marks and em-dashes. The PDF copy should also print nicely if you want to share it with someone who doesn't have computer access.
Because the newsletter contains names and pictures of your children, and because personal information is increasingly being misused for fraudulent purposes in the world today, access to the newsletter is protected by a password. The username and password were on a slip of paper handed to you when you checked your campers in on Sunday. If you misplaced the information, please try to contact someone else who has a child at this week's camp--I'd be happy to help you out by email, but I stay busy enough at camp that I won't have time to keep up during the week. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but your children's safety is absolutely paramount to us, and this is one of the many things we do to make camp a safe place.
Here's a copy of the schedule we use as a guide for running the day's activities. Of course things change for special activities, but this will give you an idea of what goes on during a typical day at camp.
If for any reason you need to get in touch with someone at camp during the week, please call (620) 297-3290 or e-mail to campmno@mennowdc.org . If you have questions or comments about this web page or the newsletter, I'll post a way for you to contact me after I get back from camp when I'll have time to respond.
