I talked to the telcom manager at work (from whose trash this came) and he said it remembers how much label is used on a cartridge even when you swap cartridges back and forth. For what it's worth, there was only about an inch of label left in the cartridge, so I don't think Panduit is being <em>totally</em> evil. :-) Alan, I think you’re on the right track. If they have it available I bet they are keeping track of how much it was used and will probably die when it should be empty. I wonder why a company would justify putting an EEPROM into each cartridge? D.
