Hearts 4 Him -- When the Mountains Sing Your Praise
Week 1 -- Capture
Full
recording from rehearsal
Notes
Intonation
-
Every field and every mountain -- Keith: Are you satisfied with the
intonation?
- Lawrence: Work more on "one voice" during unison sections.
Better blend could be achieved.
- JB: A one-voice sound is achieved more easily with less vibrato.
- JoAnn: Measure 21 at 1:14 not sure the baritones are hitting the E. But
that's very minor.
- Bernie: When we hold longer notes, if we don't do something with the note,
we go flat.
- Bernie: Higher notes tend to be approached from below instead of being hit
on pitch.
Timing
- JoAnn says: Introduction - I NEED TO COUNT - I'll change that on my own.
No need to take the group's time with that.
- Lawrence: Need to have consistent consonant cutoffs. Problem areas at
1:25, 1:53, 2:42, 2:48. Any time there is an "s" or "t".
- JoAnn: Triplets throughout when the group has them. I've noticed on other
songs also that we tend to sing them as 2 sixteenths and 1 eight. I don't
really think that's really worth changing here. It would take months of working
on it several minutes a week to change that and I don't really think it's worth
it. I don't feel it would enhance the song enough to merit that work. If we
have triplets in a new song I would be willing to help the group with a
technique that I used in piano that was pretty successful.
Pronunciation
- Yoder: At times we pronounce "Your" as YORE and at times as YER. Need to
decide which and be consistent.
Dynamics
- JoAnn: Measure 33 at 1:50 need to come in a strong f.
-
When the heavens sing your praise -- Which part has the melody? Is it 1st
tenor and it's quieter because Bernie is absent?
- JoAnn: Dynamics. This song doesn't do much for changes other then start
soft and build throughout. We could work on starting soft, which we pretty
much do. Then stay that same soft until m. 33. Looking at the lyrics measure
45 talks about the heavens shouting. To amplify that we could drop down
dynamically at measure 41 and pick up to measure 45 suddenly go back to the
forte. I do feel like we do a good job of dropping back pick up to measure 49
and building that to the end. Wouldn't change that.
- Bernie: We need to be quieter on the quiet parts with intensity.
